Herold Scott, Purchasing manager for M & S Systems, Inc. is visiting the Colonna
factory. The manager of Colonna greets him.
M: Mr.Scott, welcome to Colonna. I knew your
A: predecessor, Edward Milton, very well.
H: Yes, Edward's happily retired now. And please call
A: me Harry.
M: My pleasure, Harry. Do sit down. Coffee?
H: Love one. Black, please, and no sugar.
M: Black and no sugar! Black coffee is good for a
A: shock, isn't it?
H: I.... I think it is.... Why? Have you got some bad
A: news for me?
M: I'm afraid so. Well.... we've had some problems
A: here, Harry. The price, I'm afraid, has gone
A: through the roof.
H: How much?
M: $525 a ton.
H: You're joking! I'll have to get back to the Board on
A: that. I'm not authorized to spend that much.
M: I understand. I would advise you to buy some now
A: though. There isn't much for anybody, and you
A: know how it is, if Hames gives us an order, we must
A: meet it before you do anything else.
H: Yes, you're right. I think I'll have to take four
A: hundred tons now.
