기타 비교구문

(1) 최상급의 의미를 갖는 구문

형태는 원급이나 비교급의 구문이면서도 의미상으로는 최상급의 의미를 갖는 구문들이 있다. 1) 원급으로 최상급의 의미를 갖는 구문에는 "not ... so ~ as", "as ~ as any", "as ~ as ever" 등이 있으며, 2) 비교급으로 최상급의 의미를 갖는 구문으로는 "비교급+than any other+단수 명사", "비교급+than all the other+복수명사", "비교급+than any one else", "부정어+비교급+than" 등이 있다.

Nothing can be so easy as this.
(이것처럼 쉬운 것은 없다. = 이것이 제일 쉽다.)
He is as brave as any man in the world.
(그는 이 세상 어느 누구 못지않게 용감하다. = 그가 이 세상에서 가장 용감하다.)
She is as great an actress as ever lived.
(이제까지 그녀 만큼 위대한 여배우는 없었다. = 그녀가 지금까지는 가장 위대한 여배우다.)
She could speak English more fluently than any other student in our class.
(그녀는 우리 반의 어떤 학생보다도 더 유창하게 영어를 말할 수 있었다.)
He loved money more than all the other members in his family.
(그는 자기 가족들 중 누구보다도 돈을 좋아했다.)

(2) 비교급과 최상급의 강조

비교급을 강조할 때는 much, far, even, still로 비교급을 수식하게 된다. 한편 최상급을 강조할 때는 much, by far, very 등을 쓴다. very가 최상급을 수식하는 경우는 "the very+최상급"의 어순이 된다.

It was much worse than I thought.
(그것은 내가 생각했던 것보다 훨씬 나빴다.)
She speaks Japanese far better than me.
(그녀는 나보다 훨씬 더 일본어를 잘 한다.)
She acted even more cleverly than usual.
