● 독립 부정사

Study Point 1   독립 부정사의 의미와 종류

독립된 의미를 갖고 문장 전체를 수식하는 to부정사가 포함된 부사구를 독립 부정사라 하는데 독립 부정사는 관용어구로 알아두는 것이 좋다.

to tell the truth (사실을 말하면)

to be frank with you (솔직히 말해)

to be sure (확실히)

to make matters worse (설상가상으로)

so to speak (말하자면)

strange to say (이상하게 들리겠지만)

needless to say (말할 필요도 없이)

to say nothing of ~ = not to speak of ~
    = not to mention ~ (~은 말할 것도 없이)

to sum up (요약하면)

to begin with (우선은)

to cut a long story short (간단히 말해서)

To tell the truth, I have never been to Europe.
   (사실을 말하면, 나는 유럽에 가본 적이 없다.)

To be frank with you, he is not honest.
   (솔직히 말하면, 그는 정직하지 않다.)

To be sure, this movie is not a good one.
   (확실히, 이 영화는 좋은 영화가 아니다.)

Needless to say, you should keep the secret.
   (말할 필요도 없이, 당신은 비밀을 지켜야 한다.)

Strange to say, the story was made up.
   (이상한 말이지만, 그 이야기는 꾸며낸 것이었다.)

To make matters worse, it began to rain hard.
   (설상가상으로 비가 많이 내리기 시작했다.)

Marley was dead, to begin with.
   (먼저 말씀드릴 것은 말리가 죽었다는 것입니다.)

He is, so to speak, a book worm.
   (그는 말하자면 책벌레이다.)

To do him justice, he is not an able man.
   (정당하게 평가하자면 그는 유능한 사람이 아닙니다.)
