Mind를 이용한 부탁

Model Dialog :

A: Would you mind closing the window?
B: No, not at all.
A: It's rather chilly this morning, isn't it?
B: Yes. And it's windy.

A: 창문 좀 닫아주시겠습니까?
B: 네, 그러죠.
A: 오늘 아침은 좀 춥네요, 그렇죠?
B: 그렇네요. 그리고 바람도 부는군요.

Speaking Tip : Would you mind ~ing?는 직역하자면「~하는 게 싫으십니까?」의 뜻으로 아주 완곡한 부탁의 표현이 된다. 따라서 Would you mind ~?나 Do you mind ~?의 형식으로 질문을 받았을 때 I don't mind. / No, not at all. / Of course not! / Certainly not! 등으로 대답하면 상대방의 부탁을 들어 주겠다는 의미가 된다. 반대로, 부탁을 거절하고 싶은 경우는 Yes, I would.와 같이 긍정형으로 대답해야 한다. mind가「~을 싫어하다」는 뜻을 갖고 있기 때문이다.

Dialog Practice 1 :

A: Excuse me. I wonder if I could ask you to do a favor
for me.
B: Sure. What is it?
A: Would you mind taking a picture of the two of us
standing over here?
B: Of course not. I'd be glad to!

A: 실례합니다. 부탁을 좀 드려도 될런 지요.
B: 물론이지요. 무슨 일이죠?
A: 여기 서 있는 저희 두 사람의 사진을 찍어 주실 수 있을까요?
B: 그러고 말구요. 기꺼이 해 드리죠!

Dialog Practice 2 :

A: Excuse me. I'm sorry to bother you, but ...
B: Yes?
A: Would you mind moving down one seat so my friend
and I can sit together?
B: Certainly not.

A: 실례합니다. 귀찮게 해 죄송합니다만.
B: 네?
A: 친구와 제가 같이 앉을 수 있게 한 좌석만 옮겨 주실 수 있을런지요?
B: 그렇게 하죠.
