Model Dialog :

A: May I help you?
B: Yes. I'm looking for a suit.
A: How do you like this yellow one? This is a very
popular one.
B: Well, yellow doesn't really suit me. Have you got
anything in brown?
A: Wait a second, ma'am.

A: 도와 드릴까요?
B: 네, 정장을 한 벌 찾고 있는데요.
A: 이 노란색 옷은 어떻습니까? 이것은 아주 유행하는 것입니다.
B: 글쎄요, 노란색은 제게는 정말 어울리질 않아요. 갈색의 것이 있나요?
A: 잠시만 기다리세요, 부인.

Speaking Tip 1 : 상점에서 점원이 손님을 맞을 때 쓰는 표현이 May I help you?이다. 이 말은 직역하면「도와 드릴까요?」라는 뜻이지만 우리말로 의역하면「어서 오세요. 무엇을 드릴까요?」정도에 해당하는 말로 보면 된다.

- May I help you? (도와 드릴까요?)
- Can I help you? (도와 드릴까요?)
- May I be of service? (도와 드릴까요?)
- What can I do for you? (무엇을 도와 드릴까요?)
- Anything I can help you? (도와 드릴 일이 있습니까?)

Speaking Tip 2 : 사고자 하는 물건이나 찾고 있는 물건을 말할 때는 다음의 표현을 이용하면 된다.

- I'm looking for a suit. (정장을 한 벌 찾고 있습니다.)
- I need a shirt to match this pants. (이 바지와 어울리는
- 셔츠가 필요합니다.)
- I want to buy some toys. (장난감을 좀 사려는데요.)
- I'd like to find a present for my son. (제 아들에게 줄 선물을
- 찾습니다.)

Dialog Practice 1 :

A: May I help you, ma'am?
B: No, thanks. I'm just looking around.
A: All right. Take your time!

A: 부인, 도와 드릴까요?
B: 아니, 됐어요. 그저 둘러보는 겁니다.
A: 알겠습니다. 천천히 구경하세요!

Dialog Practice 2 :

A: What can I do for you, lady?
B: I'd like to find a pair of shoes to match this dress.
A: What style shoe do you have in mind?
B: A dress shoe, something with high heels and thin
straps.

A: 부인, 무엇을 도와 드릴까요?
B: 이 옷과 어울리는 구두를 한 켤레 찾는데요.
A: 어떤 스타일을 생각하고 계십니까?
B: 정장용 구두요, 뒷 굽이 높고 끈이 가는 것 말입니다.
