Model Dialog :

A: When he comes back, would you ask him to call
me, please?
B: Certainly. Does he have your number?
A: I think so.
B: All right, Mr. Harris. I'll give him the message.

A: 아, 그가 돌아오면 제게 전화하도록 해 주시겠습니까?
B: 네. 선생님 전화번호를 알고 있나요?
A: 그럴 겁니다.
B: 알겠습니다, 해리스씨. 그 분에게 전해 드리죠.

Speaking Tip : 보다 구체적으로 전할 말을 남길 때에는「have him/her+동사원형」,「tell him/her+to부정사」,「ask him/her+to부정사」,「tell him/her that ~」의 문형을 이용하는 것이 보통이다.

- Would you have him call me when he's back?
- (그가 돌아오면 저에게 전화하도록 해 주시겠습니까?)
- Please tell him to call me back. (저에게 전화하도록 그에게
- 말해 주십시오.)
- Could you ask her to return my call? (저에게 답신전화하도록
- 그녀에게 부탁해 주시겠습니까?)
- Just tell him that I called. (그냥 제가 전화했다고 그에게
- 말하세요.)
- Would you tell her that I'll call again this afternoon?
- (제가 오늘 오후에 다시 전화하겠다고 그녀에게 말해 주시겠습니까?)

Dialog Practice 1 :

A: This is J. S. Kim. I'm calling from the airport. Will you
tell Mrs. McKinley I'll call her tomorrow afternoon?
B: Yes. I'll give her the message first thing in the morning.
A: Thank you so much.

A: 저는 J.S. 김입니다. 공항에서 전화하는데요. 내일 오후에 다시
전화하겠다고 맥킨리 여사에게 말씀해 주시겠습니까?
B: 네. 내일 아침 제일 먼저 그녀에게 전해드리죠.
A: 대단히 감사합니다.

Dialog Practice 2 :

A: Hello. May I speak to David?
B: I'm sorry, but he's not here now. May I take your
message?
A: Well, this is John. Just tell him I'll call again this evening.
B: I sure will.

A: 여보세요. 데이빗과 통화할 수 있을까요?
B: 죄송합니다만, 그는 지금 여기에 없습니다. 전하실 말씀이 있나요?
A: 저, 저는 존입니다. 오늘 저녁에 다시 전화하겠다고 말해 주세요.
B: 그러죠.
