길 안내하기 (1)

Model Dialog :

A: Excuse me. How can I get to the Plaza Hotel?
B: Uh, Turn right at the corner, and go straight up
Jefferson Street. It's in the middle of the block on
your left.
A: Straight to the corner, and then turn right?
B: You've got it!

A: 실례합니다. 플라자 호텔에는 어떻게 가면 됩니까?
B: 어, 길 모퉁이에서 오른쪽으로 돌아, 제퍼슨 가를 따라 똑바로 가세요.
왼쪽으로 블록 중간 쯤 있습니다.
A: 길 모퉁이까지 똑바로 가서 오른쪽으로 돌라구요?
B: 바로 맞았어요!

Speaking Tip : 영어로 길을 가리켜 주거나 그 말을 알아 듣기는 쉽지 않다. 그러나 길을 안내할 때 사용되는표현은 의외로 단순하고 아주 한정되어 있으므로 몇 가지 기본적인 구문만 이해한다면 쉽게 이해될 수 있을 것이다. 다음이 그 대표적인 표현들이다.

- Go straight ahead. (똑바로 가세요.)
- Go this way. (이쪽 길로 가세요.)
- Go two blocks until you come to Broadway.
- (브로드웨이에 다다를 때까지 두 블록을 가세요.)
- Turn to the right. = Turn right. = Make a right turn.
- (오른쪽으로 도세요.)
- Turn to the left. = Turn left. = Make a left turn.
- (왼쪽으로 도세요.)
- It's on your right. (그곳은 당신 오른편에 있습니다.)
- It's on your left. (그곳은 당신 왼편에 있습니다.)
- You can't miss it. (쉽게 찾을 겁니다.)

Dialog Practice 1 :

A: Uh, excuse me, ma'am. Which way is the post office,
please?
B: Let's see... oh, yes. You go straight down this street
to the corner. Turn left and go one block until you
come to Broadway. Go right on Broadway. It's on the
right side of the street just past the Citibank. You
can't miss it.
A: Thanks a lot.

A: 실례합니다, 부인. 우체국은 어느 쪽입니까?
B: 어디 보자.... 아, 그래요. 저 모퉁이까지 이 길을 따라 똑바로 가세요.
왼쪽으로 돌아서 브로드웨이에 다다를 때까지 한 블록을 가세요.
브로드웨이에서 오른편으로 가세요. 그것은 시티뱅크를 바로 지나서
길 오른편에 있습니다. 쉽게 찾을 수 있어요.
B: 대단히 감사합니다.

Dialog Practice 2 :

A: Sorry to bother you, but would you please show me
the way to the Bank of America?
B: The Bank of America? Let me think for a moment... Ah,
yes. It's on Main Street. Go two blocks until you come
to the police station. Then make a left turn. It's at the
corner on your right.
A: Thank you very much.

A: 귀찮게 해 죄송합니다만, 아메리카 은행으로 가는 길을 가리켜
주시겠습니까?
B: 아메리카 은행이요? 잠깐만요... 아, 그래요. 메인 가에 있어요.
경찰서가 나올 때까지 두 블록을 가세요. 그리고 왼쪽으로 도세요.
은행은 오른쪽 길 모퉁이에 있습니다.
A: 대단히 감사합니다.
